How does the SST fit within the MTSS process?

MTSS provides the overarching structure and philosophy for supporting all students, and the SST process serves as a practical, collaborative mechanism within that framework to address the needs of individual students who require additional support.

The SST process is an essential component within the larger MTSS framework, particularly at Tier II and Tier III. When a student requires support beyond the universal instruction provided in Tier 1 after the implementation of DCAP accommodations, a referral to the SST may be initiated. The SST then utilizes its problem-solving process to develop targeted interventions and support for the student. The data collected through the SST process informs decision-making within MTSS, guiding the selection of appropriate interventions and monitoring their effectiveness within the tiered system.
